Alberta is one of the ten main provinces in Canada. It’s located in Western Canada. It has two main urban centers, Calgary and Edmonton, and is one of the fastest-growing provinces in the country.
The landscape of Alberta ranges from towering mountains to glacial lakes, substantial boreal forests to fertile prairies, and desert badlands.
Natural gas, oil, coal, minerals, and the famed Alberta oil sands are among the province’s natural resources, making it Canada’s energy province.
The Alberta Immigrant Nominee Program (AINP) is for people who have the skills and talents to meet Alberta’s labor needs.
Under the Alberta Opportunity Stream and the Express Entry system, the AINP accepts skilled worker applications. It also runs three business programs: Self-Employed Farmer Stream, International Graduate Entrepreneur Immigration Stream, and Foreign Graduate Start-Up Visa Stream.
The Alberta government runs the program in collaboration with Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada, the federal immigration department (IRCC). Interested candidates must go through a two-step process: first, apply for a nomination with the province government, and then, if nominated, apply with the federal government for permanent residence.
To learn how to be nominated, select a stream:
For foreign workers who reside and work in Alberta or who plan to live and work here, the alberta pnp has two streams:
The Alberta Opportunity Stream was launched in June 2018. This stream is for foreign nationals already employed in Alberta and who have received an official employment offer from their employer to remain in the province full-time. Candidates for this stream must meet some criteria, including educational qualifications, language fluency, work experience, a job offer.
Note: Alberta PNP Program nominations are available to qualified candidates who reside and work in Alberta and have a job offer from an Alberta company.
The Alberta Express Entry Stream is a program that allows you to apply for a job.
In June 2018, Alberta PNP was introduced Express Entry programs. The stream permits the province to nominate candidates with current federal Express Entry system profiles for provincial nominations. Profiles in the federal Express Entry pool will be considered automatically in Alberta. While the exact criteria for selection are unknown, Alberta PNP Program says it will look for individuals who have strong ties to Alberta and who can help the province’s economic development and diversification.
Candidates who receive a provincial nomination through this stream will see their Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) score raise by 600 points, essentially assuring them an Invitation to Apply (ITA) for Canadian permanent residence in the next Express Entry lottery.
Note: Alberta PNP program may invite qualified individuals with an Express Entry profile to seek permanent residency nomination.
For entrepreneurs who want to live in Alberta and acquire or start a business there, the Alberta PNP Program provides three streams:
The International Graduate Entrepreneur Immigration Stream (IGEIS) permits Alberta PNP Program to propose qualified international graduates from Alberta post-secondary colleges who desire to start or run a business in the province.
Note: International graduates of recognized Alberta post-secondary institutions who intend to start or buy a business can file an Expression of Interest (EOI).
This stream is for entrepreneurs with the financial resources and farm management skills to start a new farm in Alberta or buy an existing one.
Candidates must submit their application to the Alberta PNP Program for review, along with a planned business plan. The Alberta Agriculture and Forestry will engage with the Alberta PNP to ensure that the business plan is practical and viable and serves the needs of Alberta’s agriculture industry.
Note: Experienced farmers planning to buy or start a farm in Alberta can apply for permanent residence.
The Foreign Graduate Start-Up Visa Stream is for foreign graduates who want to start their own business.
The Foreign Graduate Start-Up Visa Stream (FGSVS) is an economic immigration program for qualifying foreign-educated graduates outside Canada who desire to start businesses in Alberta.
Note: Foreign graduates from outside of Canada are eligible to seek permanent residency in Canada.
When it comes to applications that are not adequately prepared and filed, the AINP streams have a high rate of refusal because the standards are very high. The procedures and documentation required to obtain a Canada PR Visa through PNPs are typically extensive, demanding professional assistance.
