Study Direct Stream(SDS) Canada launched the Study Direct Stream (SDS) program on 7 June 2018, which streamlines the study process for Indian students at universities and colleges in Canada. Students applying for an SDS program must meet the following eligibility criteria:- Admission to a full-time program at a Specified Learning Institution, University, College or CEGEP.
- An IELTS score of 6 for each skill (Listening, Reading, Writing and Speaking) taken over the past two years.
- Purchase of a special Guaranteed Investment Certificate (GIC) of CAD$10,200 to cover the first year of stay in Canada.
- Payment of tuition fee for one (1) year.
- Advance medical test at least one week before visa submission.
- Ideally, all visa applications must be submitted online.
- Key advantages under SDS:
1.simplified visa operation.
2.Minimum financial documentation.
3.Faster visa processing approximately 20 days.
- Students who do not meet SDS criteria can apply for a general category visa.
- Time for general category visas is 45-60 days.
Work Permit during the study
Students are eligible to work part-time on or off-campus from day one. Study Permit Canada will automatically allow the applicant to work on / off-campus for 20 Hrs. a week during the academic session and full-time (i.e. 40 hours a week) during scheduled breaks without the need to apply for a separate work permit. Study permit Canada holder must be undergoing six months or more college, technical or professional training leading to a degree, diploma, or certificate at a Designated Learning Institution.Post-Study Work Permit Visa
- For valuable Canadian work experience, all foreign students who have graduated from a Canadian post-secondary institution are eligible for Post-Study Work Permit Visa.
- To qualify for a Post Study Work Permit Visa, foreign students would have studied full-time at least eight months before completion of their program and graduated from a Designated Training Institution.
- Will complete and pass the study program and receive written notice that they are eligible for graduation, diploma or certificate.
- Will apply for a post-study work permit visa within 180 days of obtaining written confirmation from their academic institution that they have fulfilled their program requirements.
- Post-study Work Permit Visa does not place any limitations on the form of work and condition of a job offer.
- 1-year Course at a designated College or University makes you eligible for 1-year post-study work permit visa while a 2-year program makes you eligible up to 3 years’ post-study work permit visa
